Welcome to Save The G's blog

After a too-long hiatus, Save The G is re-establishing our web presence. You'll be hearing about our advocacy efforts for longer trains, shorter waits, and cleaner stations. Our website is also getting a much-needed overhaul; we'll let you know when it's back up.

In the meantime, we want to hear from you. Please post G train related news, comments, and ideas and meet your fellow G train riders!

What is the latest on extending the G to Church (or further down the Culver line to Coney Island)? This would make my commute 100x better, and would allow for express service on the busy F/G corridor through Park Slope, etc.

By G-train news, can we also post G-train sightings? I saw a G-train once, about two months ago.

Guys, the G train comes on time more than 91% of the time. It has the best on time performance of any line. My tip is to pick up a G schedule. Then when it not on time we can all complain. But if it's scheduled for once every 15 minutes or once every 20 or 30, then don't fret when it's not there. It just takes time. No, rapid transit should not require a schedule. And schedules should at least be posted, especially for such a good line in that department. But there it is. It runs on time.

Louis- you must only be taking the G during rush hour on weekdays.

Certainly that 91% does not count when the G is single-tracking on the weekend during the day, thus adding 15 minutes to any trip, or when it is shuttling from Bedford-Nostrand to Hoyt-Schermerhorn, thus adding 10-30 minutes to your trip. The schedule obviously does not apply to either of those situations. Nor does the schedule apply when the G stops short at LIC/Court Square when it should be running to Forest Hills.

Louis when the heck are you taking the G?
All I know is, when it finally does come and I see that its either running shuttle or only to Court Sq. Its VERY fustrating!
Just because its printed on doesnt mean its going to come at that time. Proof is that I DO in fact have a schedule and many times it has not shown up on time.
Also alot of times I find myself stuck in between stops, for what i dont think I will ever know.
Is it the worst line? No I dont think so. Can it be improved? Yes I do believe so.

I've lived off the G for 10 years, and I am so glad that you've taken up this cause! Though it's improved lately, theres's still a lot of room for improvement.

Glad to see you're back advocating for the G line. I commute from Queens to lower Manhattan, and it's all about getting a seat...something I can actually do on the G train (then switch to the A at Hoyt in Brooklyn). However, the creepy poorly lit station at LIC/Court Square is really off-putting. And after a woman was raped at the 21st Street Station, I went back to other lines for my commute. G line station issues are something the MTA needs to address...both how they look and the safety factor of running short trains from long platforms on such a limited schedule.

I take the G all the time for pleasure trips rather than work commutes. I've lived in Brooklyn again for a year and wonder: Does it ever go past Court Square?

I enjoyed it last weekend and will again this weekend when it runs all the way to Coney Island with normal-length trains. On Saturday I took it to West 8th Street and the boardwalk; on Sunday I took it to 18th Avenue and Boro Park.

A train that would actually run from Coney Island to Forest Hills would be wonderful.

In nice weather, the views from parts of the Smith St./9th St. station can be breathtaking, but sometimes changing for/from the F is a big drag.

I also noticed that a lot of people, particularly newer residents of Brooklyn whose English may not be the best, miss their transfer to the L because of the lack of notice that the differently named Metropolitan Avenue/Grand Street (Grand Street? the exit's been closed off for decades and it's a 4-block walk) and Lorimer Street are actually the same station.
